Birmingham City are on the verge of securing promotion back to the Championship after dominating the League One title race.

A 6-2 victory over Barnsley on Saturday has left the Blues just two points shy of promotion.

If Birmingham win at Peterborough on Tuesday, or if Wycombe Wanderers fail to beat Huddersfield, they will be back in the Championship at the first attempt.

It’s shaping up to be a memorable week, with a potential title celebration on the horizon as they face Peterborough again at Wembley on Sunday in the Vertu Trophy final.

The League One title is almost in the bag, with Birmingham holding an 11-point lead over second-placed Wrexham and two games in hand.

With the title almost sealed, the focus now shifts to breaking League One records.

The Blues currently sit on 92 points, and since the EFL rebrand in 2004, only Reading - who hit 90 points in the 2005/06 Championship season in 38 games - have done it faster than Birmingham’s 39-game pace this season under Chris Davies.

With Wolves’ 103-point League One record from 2013/14 now in sight, four more wins from their last seven games will see them smash that record.
