The pundit has spoken to FLW after the Owls' excellent victory on Tuesday evening.
Carlton Palmer has commended Sheffield Wednesday after their fantastic 2-0 win over Norwich City on Tuesday evening.
Goals from Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa in the first-half secured an incredibly important three points for the Owls, pushing them further towards mid-table after an up-and-down start to the season under Danny Rohl.
It's a result that sets them up perfectly for the Steel City Derby on Sunday afternoon, as they make the short trip to Bramall Lane to face their bitter rivals Sheffield United in the 1:30pm kick-off.
It's a game that will have huge repercussions on the appearance of the Championship table as the league pauses for the third international break of the campaign next week, and things are starting to look a lot brighter for Sheffield Wednesday after their victory.
It was a win that has seen the Owls rise from the clutches of the relegation battle into the fight for mid-table, and a good result on Sunday could potentially see them looking towards those in the top 10.
However, it can be said that a couple of bad results will push them back towards those who are struggling, and their inconsistencies could come back to haunt them.
Nevertheless, speaking exclusively to Football League World, former England and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Palmer, has heaped praise on his old club after their excellent win.
He told FLW: "A huge result for Sheffield Wednesday, an absolutely huge result with a 2-0 win over Norwich City.
"I mean, generally, Sheffield Wednesday are very, very strong at home, great home support.
"It was a fantastic win that puts Danny Rohl’s side level on points with Norwich. Had Norwich won the game they would have been on 21 points, level with a play-off spot. So, it's a huge result for Sheffield Wednesday.
"It gives them good confidence going into a very, very tough away game at Sheffield United. They're a very good side, they're very well organised and this will probably give Danny Rohl an idea of where Sheffield Wednesday could be this season."
Palmer continued: "As I said, I fully expect Sheffield United to be in the shake-up for automatic one or two this season, so this will give Danny Rohl a good indication of whether Sheffield Wednesday may be able to kick on this season and do a bit better than mid-table.
"As I said, if Danny Rohl finishes mid-table with Sheffield Wednesday this season, it is progression itself, with not looking over your shoulder and worrying about whether you're going to get relegated or not.
"I mean, if you're looking at the situation now, you know Luton Town are on 12 points in the third relegation spot, with Sheffield Wednesday six points ahead of that, and they're eight points ahead of QPR, who are second from bottom, so it's a fantastic position to be in at this point of the season."
While Tuesday was a fantastic evening for the blue-and-white half of Sheffield, those on the side of the city equally had a brilliant result, running out late winners at Bristol City, beating the Robins 2-1.
Sunday will be incredibly tough for Rohl's side, who go into the clash as the underdogs, and with the Blades losing only twice this season, it will be a difficult task for them to overcome.
Sheffield United have conceded only seven goals all season. Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, conceded six in one game on Saturday.
There is still a clear difference between the two sides, and it will be a difficult task for the Owls to keep out one of the form teams in the league right now. Taking their chances is a must, as it is unlikely that they will be given too many.
It is a result that could help define where they are heading this season, as a big loss could see them slide back towards those fighting against relegation, and with the game coming after the majority of matches over the weekend, they may already be looking over their shoulder before the game even kicks off.
