Very disappointed with the result of the match despite the good face shown by his players against a Paris Saint-Germain that was ineffective for a long time, the Monegasque coach spoke after the defeat in the Trophée des Champions (1-0).
A maddening goal in the final seconds. Heroic throughout the match, like a Philipp Köhn who made nine saves on his line, the players of AS Monaco were consigned to a late loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions (1-0). It was a match that Adi Hütter tried to analyse post-match. 🎙️
Good evening coach. You resisted for a long time. Is this defeat all the more frustrating?
When you lose a match in the last minutes, the feeling that dominates is always disappointment. That’s what I feel, despite everything as when we look at the whole match, Paris Saint-Germain deserves this victory. Even then I’m happy with what we did tonight, because we fought until the end to hang on to the penalty shootout.
We have to be honest, Paris had many more chances than us. But we had a game plan that the team tried to respect, so I want to congratulate them for that. You can imagine that every player was sad in the locker room after losing in the last moments, because it was a big blow for us.
We had some chances, but we also conceded a lot to PSG, especially on set pieces where we were not well organized. I want to congratulate PSG on their title, even if we are obviously very disappointed by the defeat.
What was missing today to hope for a better result?
We have to be honest, Paris had many more chances than us. But we had a game plan that the team tried to respect, so I want to congratulate them for that. You can imagine that every player was sad in the locker room after losing in the last moments, because it was a big blow for us. We must now raise our heads and think about the next match against Nantes. In any case, I think that tonight the spectators saw a very good match.
What didn’t work in the first half?
First of all, we have to admit that Paris Saint-Germain has some very high-quality players. My team was indeed too passive in the first half, we didn’t do enough when we lost the ball. Especially on set pieces, we weren’t aggressive enough.
In the second half, it was better, we had chances to score, even hitting the post through Vanderson. So it’s a big disappointment to lose this match in the final seconds.
I obviously want to congratulate him, because he had a fantastic game tonight with incredible saves (9 in total, editor’s note) that kept us in the game for a long time. We are therefore all the more disappointed for him to lose this match.
