Manchester United’s plans could be sabotaged by Aston Villa once more, as the Birmingham-based club plots a move for Lucas Chevalier.

This wouldn’t be the first transfer saga involving the two clubs this summer, as the Red Devils were hoping to raise some funds by selling Marcus Rashford to the Villains following an impressive loan stint.

Nevertheless, Emery Unai’s club opted against activating their option to buy the 27-year-old for £40 million.

In fairness, this was partially United’s own doing, as their 2-0 victory over Villa on the final day of the Premier League season cost their opponents a place in the Champions League next season, which made the operation difficult to conduct.

But aside from Rashford, the two clubs could be involved in a tug of war for a highly-rated goalkeeper.

Both clubs are searching the market for a new custodian, albeit for different reasons.

Man Utd have had enough of Andre Onana’s costly blunders, so they’re seeking a more reliable presence between the posts. On the other hand, Emiliano Martinez has been serving Villa’s cause admirably, but he has apparently decided to leave this summer, perhaps in pursuit of a lucrative payday in the Saudi Pro League.

So according to CaughtOffside, Aston Villa are planning to sabotage United’s plans to sign their longtime target Chevalier, presenting LOSC Lille with an offer worth £40 million.

The 23-year-old is a youth product of the Ligue 1 side who went on to become a regular feature for the first team, and is now earning call-ups for the French national team.

Therefore, Chevalier is considered one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in Europe, so missing out on his services would be a big blow for the Red Devils.

Nevertheless, United are simultaneously following other shot-stoppers, including Burnley’s James Trafford, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, and Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
