Aiming for a step forward against WAC

Final match of regular season against third-placed side

We have a clear aim on Sunday when we host WAC at 17:00 CET on Matchday 22 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. We want to climb one spot in the table in our last match before the points are divided - and a win against the side just above us in third will ensure that.

WAC are impressing at the moment with their strength on the road, which sees them in second in the away table currently. Dietmar Kühbauer's side have ensured for some surprises since the winter break - such as a 3-0 statement win against Sturm Graz and 3-1 success at Rapid Vienna, even if their 1-2 defeat to BW Linz last week was a hiccup. Impressing in attack for Wolfsberg have been Dejan Zukic (14 goal involvements) and Thierno Ballo (12 goal involvements), with the team boosted in the winter with new signings like former Austrian international Alessandro Schöpf. WAC have a history of close battles with our boys, and despite dominating on our last visit to them in the autumn, we had to settle for a goalless draw. Our four previous meetings had all been won by a single goal by our boys. We therefore know we have to put in the best performance possible to not only remain unbeaten for our tenth consecutive Bundesliga match but also claim all three points!

If you are in third after 21 matches, then that can't be a coincidence. WAC are doing very well as a team, have a clear structure and extreme quality in transitions. We have to stop them on the break, which is something we have been working on this week in training - and was a great strength against Sturm Graz. On the other hand, we need to find solutions in attack to get past WAC when they are playing deeper. We have to be sharp over 90 minutes for that, and we can't take any time off.

WAC are doing really good this season, and they have not scored the second-most goals for nothing. We want to play well against them again, so that we are ahead of them at the start of the championship group. We have to get our basics onto the pitch and give everything we have. We have only conceded three goals in our last five league matches, which shows we are doing better match-by-match defensively and defending really well as a team. We want to build on that on Sunday.
