Ainsley Maitland-Niles ‘nostalgic’ about the Premier League and could leave Lyon | OneFootball

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (27) is “nostalgic” about the Premier League and could leave Olympique Lyonnais this summer, according to a report from L’Équipe.

Maitland-Niles joined Lyon from Arsenal on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract at his formative club. The England international has played a major role for OL this season, featuring on 43 occasions in all competitions. Since joining Les Gones, he has made 72 appearances, scoring three goals and registering 11 assists.

However, despite being an important part of this OL side, he could be on his way out this summer. The club, in a dire financial situation, will have to offload players once again this summer. There are more obvious candidates for a departure, notably Malick Fofana and Rayan Cherki, but L’Équipe understands that Maitland-Niles could also leave.

The publication adds that the former Arsenal and Southampton man is “nostalgic” about the Premier League and could seek a return to England’s top-flight.
