Aston Villa progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday at Villa Park.
Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rodgers scored for Villa to give them a 2-0 lead. Mathys Tel scored in the 91st minute for Spurs.
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were heavily impressed by Rogers, who has been enjoying a terrific season for Villa.
The England international is a key player for Unai Emery and Shearer says that the 22-year-old could remain at the “very top” of his game for years to come if he stays away from injuries.
Rodgers is a versatile attacking midfielder who can play across all positions upfront. At times, he has even played as a striker for Villa this season.
Shearer said on Rest is Football podcast: “He is a proper player, by the way. He is going to be around for a long time at the very top, barring any injuries.
“The way he runs with the ball, and handles the ball in really difficult situations, he makes it look so easy. So comfortable with the ball.
“He is already a really, really good player but he can go on to achieve whatever he wants to.”
Rogers has made 23 starts in the Premier League this season, scoring six goals and providing four assists. He has also scored three goals in the Champions League, and two goals in the FA Cup.
Shearer is absolutely spot on with his assessment. The best part of his game is that he looks so effortless in whatever he does. The way he moves around and skips past players with the ball in his feet, and picks the right passes, is a joy to behold.
His prime years are ahead of him, so we can expect him to get even better in the coming years. Aston Villa will face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday.
