Laia Aleixandri is confident that Manchester City will be back challenging for silverware next season.

The Spain international will depart the Club on the expiry of her contract this summer, bringing an end to her three-year stay at the Joie Stadium.

She was named in the 2023/24 WSL Team of the Year after helping the Blues register the best defensive record in the top flight, but City would miss out on the title on goal difference.

But Aleixandri believes the squad will be back winning trophies in the not too distant future and, when that happens, she’ll be delighted to see the Blues’ success.

She said: “I’m sad because I’m leaving this Club and team with no trophies and that’s something that is very painful, not just for me, but for the team.

“[But] I know it will come because I know the girls, I know the Club and I know it will come.

“I will be very happy for every achievement this team is going to have. They’re super competitive, the Club wants to be up there so that’s very positive.

“They just need to keep working as we did this past three seasons I was here, and I know it will come.”

Aleixandri also delivered a heartfelt message to the City supporters, thanking our fans for their consistent backing across her three years in Blue.

The defender hopes to be back at the Joie Stadium to cheer the team on from the terraces but will also be supporting the Club from wherever the next chapter in her career takes her.

Asked if she’d try and get to a City game in the future, she said: “Of course, why not? If I can, yes, I’ll come and support the team.

“From home, I’ll be supporting the girls and the Club. I’ll be wishing them the best.

“I want to say to [the fans] that they are my favourites. They supported me from the first minute and the love at away games, home games, everything.

“The messages I received during these three seasons are amazing and I just want to say thank you, I gave everything for this Club and this shirt.

“We’ll see each other maybe in the future.”
