Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is ready to return to training, according to The Athletic.

Mount has been out for the last three months after suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester City late last year.

The Red Devils signed Mount from Chelsea in a £60 million deal in 2023.

Despite having only one year left on his Chelsea contract, United splashed the cash to sign him immediately rather than waiting for a free transfer.

He was entrusted with the iconic number seven shirt, left vacant after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Al-Nassr, but injuries have plagued his time at Old Trafford.

Mount has made just 32 appearances. He has featured for only 403 minutes this season, casting major doubt over his future.

Although he is unlikely to play against Real Sociedad tomorrow, his return to training is a positive development for United’s stretched squad.

Manager Ruben Amorim is short of attacking options after Antony and Marcus Rashford exited on loan.

Amad Diallo’s long-term injury has left Amorim with only Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho in the final third.

Mount must prove his worth by staying fit until the end of the season and winning over the United faithful.

Another injury setback could force United to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.
