Real Madrid’s recent 5-1 win over RB Salzburg indicated that Federico Valverde is capable of playing in any position the team wants.

Indeed, the Uruguayan international had an excellent game on the night despite operating in an unnatural right-back position.

In the wake of Valverde’s top performance against Salzburg, MARCA has put out an interesting update on how coach Carlo Ancelotti views the Uruguayan in his setup.

Ancelotti and Valverde: A bond that can’t be broken

The report highlights the level of understanding Fede Valverde has with his coach Ancelotti, to a point where communication remains minimal.

Valverde is willing to adapt to any role for his team and the benefit of the team. The midfielder understands that he has to operate in other positions due to Real Madrid’s ongoing injury crisis.

Ancelotti and Valverde are fully committed to each other. They believe trusting each other could lead to better results, regardless of strategy and tactics.

Ancelotti, for his part, considers Valverde the ideal player. The Italian, in fact, has heaped praise on the Uruguayan multiple times in the past and his view is unlikely to change anytime soon.

More frequency in right-back position?

The report, meanwhile, adds that Ancelotti now wants Valverde to play more frequently in the right-back position.

This comes on the back of the midfielder’s good performance against Salzburg.

Although Ancelotti believes Lucas Vazquez should have his game-time fixed, he is also eager to try his luck with Valverde at right-back more often.

The Real Madrid coach doesn’t have too many alternatives either, as star player Dani Carvajal is unlikely to return anytime soon and Lucas himself has not been quite that convincing with his performances this season.
