This week, anti-mafia prosecutors in Italy have begun a high-profile investigation into the activities of Inter and Milan ultras groups.

Prosecutors have made nineteen arrests in total at the start of this week. They have arrested leaders of both Inter ultras group the Nord, and Milan counterparts the Sud.

The focus of this investigation has been what prosecutors allege are illegal activities and mafia ties on the part of the ultras groups.

However, the prosecutors have also been making requests to Inter and Milan.

The clubs have been asked to take stricter measures to avoid facilitating potential illegal activities by their ultras groups.

And according to the Gazzetta, the demands of the prosecutors on Inter and Milan are no mere empty words.

The newspaper report that the prosecutors have taken note of a high level of influence by the Nord and the Sud.

This has often been the result of the ultras groups using threats and blackmail to get favours from the clubs.

Moreover, the Gazzetta note, prosecutors have had surprise that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have not complained more to them about this kind of behaviour by their ultras.

And the prosecutors have given Inter and Milan a clear message.

The clubs must cooperate, and do more to stop facilitating alleged illegal behaviours.

For the moment, prosecutors are not opening any sort of case into Inter and Milan.

However, they have made things clear to the clubs.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri, therefore, must do more in their efforts to crack down.

Otherwise, they could face greater risks.
