Liverpool have competed in arguably the best league in the world and faced top-tier opposition in the UEFA Champions League this season, including Real Madrid. However, manager Arne Slot appeared to take a subtle dig at those clubs with his latest remarks.

The Reds have been locked in a tight Premier League title race with Arsenal but currently trail the Gunners by 15 points. Despite the gap, Slot’s squad has faced tough competition throughout the season.

Over the weekend, Liverpool rallied from a first-half deficit to secure a 3-1 comeback win over Southampton, keeping their title hopes alive. However, Slot knows his team cannot afford a similar slow start when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg.

What does Liverpool need to do in the final 90 minutes to advance?

With a place in the quarterfinals on the line, Slot addressed what Liverpool must do to overcome PSG and advance in the Champions League.

“We wanted to keep possession much more than we did last week,” Slot said (h/t Canal Supporters). “But even when they don’t have the ball, they maintain a high level of intensity that allows them to create chances because they took the ball from us when we were trying to build up. However, in the 87th minute, with a long ball, we found an opportunity because they were very open.

“I saw many other situations where we could have done better, but their pressing tired us out, and we lacked the clarity to execute our plays. We know we can do better, but I don’t agree with those who say we played poorly. You have to acknowledge PSG’s incredible performance.”
