It's been reported in the German media that Slot was able to give Wirtz a guarantee that Bayern Munich couldn't. The Dutchman promised Wirtz that he'll be the club's no.10 - the playmaker in the middle.
Bayern struggled to give him that as Jamal Musiala is such a key player for them. In fact, German media has talked about 'Wirtziala' as a style of play. Wirtz, though, wants to have the role to himself.
But now Sued Deutchse claims the promise actually went further than that. They're claiming that Slot will build the team around Wirtz, with him as the focus of it.
It's a smart move and suggests Liverpool want Wirtz to be the leader of the post-Mo Salah era at the club. The attack is very much built around the Egyptian right now but that can't last forever.
But the transition to Wirtz as the leading man should work very well. It's one that will change the style of play, though, as Liverpool look to play through the middle a lot more.
Of course, having both in the team is a very exciting concept for the next two years. Wirtz should be able to draw attention away from Salah, freeing him up and affording him more space to work in.
Defenders have been doubling up on Salah over the second half of the season. They can't afford to do that if Wirtz is the one running the show.
