Mikel Arteta hinted that Arsenal could look to keep Thomas Partey at the club after the end of his current contract.

Partey’s existing deal runs out at the end of this season but he has been in fine form for the Gunners of late.

The 31-year-old has previously struggled with injury problems but has managed to stay fit this season, playing 46 times in all competitions.

It is unclear whether Arsenal intend to keep him at the club but asked if there has been any progress on talks over a new deal for the Ghanaian, Arteta said: “There is progress with all the players.

“I’ll leave that to Andrea (Berta) and the club to decide and to talk about.

“The intention is very clear. I’ll leave that to Andrea and the club to take the steps forward.”

Along with Partey, fellow midfielder Jorginho and left-back Kieran Tierney will also see their contracts run out this summer.

Both Jorginho and Tierney are expected to depart when their deals run out, with Tierney set to re-join his former club Celtic.

Meanwhile, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Leandro Trossard will all see their deals expire at the end of next season, as it stands.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares, who are both currently out on loan, also have deals until 2026 but look set to leave the club before then.

Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta looks set for a busy summer as Arteta looks to further shape his squad to challenge again next season and the Gunners boss says the Italian has already had a positive impact.

“These things were already discussed with him but yes, I hope that he has many more ideas, plans and surprises, positive ones,” he said.

“He will use his experience, his creativity, his intuition as well to make the right calls.

“I think it’s an opportunity. Somebody else comes in with different ideas, methods and ways of working and other priorities as well in the way they work.

“I think this will make us better.”
