In his post-match interview, PSG manager Luis Enrique defended his decision to make ten changes to his team ahead of their second leg against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday. The Spaniard remained devout in his stance despite his team suffering their second consecutive defeat in Ligue 1.
Strasbourg took full advantage of a heavily rotated Les Parisiens by securing three points with a 2-1 victory, a result that could be vitally important in the hunt for UCL football. With the domestic title wrapped up, the former Spain boss could afford to rotate and ensure his PSG team were well rested ahead of a more important fixture.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, decided to take a different approach ahead of the semi-final and only made two changes to his team that faced Bournemouth. Despite little rotation, the Spanish manager’s team suffered the same outcome, a 2-1 defeat.
When asked if he regretted his decision to rotate, Luis Enrique said, “Mr. Arteta has his way of working, Mr. Enrique has his. I don’t know which is better. They had rest periods when we didn’t.” The PSG boss added, “Apart from the result, all the objectives I had set were achieved.”
