Ademola Lookman’s future at Atalanta hangs by a thread, even though he’ll likely play in this afternoon’s clash against Venezia. According to Corriere dello Sport, on page 26, the Nigerian forward will probably wave goodbye to the Gewiss Stadium in the summer after falling out with Gian Piero Gasperini.
Indeed, the Atalanta manager has developed a habit of offloading players he had arguments with during his impressive stint in Bergamo. Gasperini has never been shy of showing the door to standout performers. Alejandro Papu Gomez, Duvan Zapata, and Luis Muriel were among those who have fallen victim to quarrels with the 67-year-old.
Lookman could face the same fate, even though his attacking presence has been essential to Atalanta. However, after missing a crucial penalty in a disastrous 3-1 home loss to Club Brugge in the Champions League, the former RB Leipzig star may have sealed his future at the Gewiss Stadium amid interest from Juventus and Napoli.
Both Italian giants are monitoring the situation with keen attention, with Lookman increasingly likely to leave Atalanta after three years. La Dea paid Leipzig around €9 million to sign the 27-year-old in the summer of 2022 but could make at least triple that amount from his sale.
In addition to Juventus and Napoli, Paris Saint-Germain are in the race for the Atalanta ace after failing to lure him to the Parc des Princes last summer. There’s still time for Lookman to smooth things over with Gasperini, but that’s easier said than done.
