Paris Saint-Germain identified River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono as a top transfer target last October, according to reports. If the Ligue 1 club moves forward with a deal, it may have one fewer competitor in the race for the Argentine teenager.

Mastantuono’s release clause is reportedly set at €40 million but will rise to €45 million in the final 10 days of the transfer window. While PSG remain interested, Diario AS journalist Eduardo Burgos reports that Manchester United are also closely monitoring him.

Other top European clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea, are monitoring Mastantuono. ESPN Argentina previously reported that Manchester United were especially eager to sign him and suggested a January bid was expected, though no offer materialized.

Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid has set its sights on Mastantuono, but River Plate is unwilling to let him go unless a club meets his €45 million release clause.

The Spanish club, which recently sent scouts to watch Mastantuono in action, faces competition from several English clubs also interested in the young talent. One advantage for Atletico Madrid is the player’s representative, former midfielder Augusto Fernandez, which could help facilitate negotiations.

Even so, securing Mastantuono will not be easy. The club must decide whether to make a significant financial commitment before another European powerhouse beats them to the deal.
