The regrettable incidents that occurred during the derby match last Sunday between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have significant repercussions for Los Rojiblancos.

Indeed, as reported by MARCA, the RFEF Competitions Committee, after a meeting held Wednesday afternoon, has decided to impose a partial closure of the south stand for three matches, which houses Atletico’s ultras.

This decision comes after a series of incidents this past Sunday where objects were thrown at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

It prompted referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer to activate the protocol for such cases and eventually halt the game for more than 15 minutes due to the repeated behaviour of some fans.

Additionally, the committee has imposed a €45,000 fine on Atletico Madrid. The club has the option to appeal the sanction within ten days, escalate it to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD), or even pursue ordinary judicial measures if they choose.

In its ruling, the Competitions Committee considered the details outlined in the referee’s report, police accounts, and proposals from the Anti-Violence Committee, which has strongly condemned the events at the Metropolitano Stadium.

The committee categorized the actions as “serious” and referenced Article 76 of the Disciplinary Code to determine the severity of the punishment. This article states that a venue may be completely closed for a duration ranging from one match to an entire season.

However, when the incident occurs in a single section or stand, a partial closure may be enforced, taking into account the specific circumstances and gravity of the events.

The ruling also warns Atletico Madrid of a potential total closure of their facilities in the event of a repeat offence.
