Sacha Tavolieri understands that former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte (30) could become the latest player to return to Europe, following his move to Saudi Arabia.
Spain international Laporte currently plies his trade for Al-Nassr in the Gulf State, however, he is now open to a return to Europe. Seko Fofana became the latest player to return to Europe. The former RC Lens midfielder, following a brief stint in the Middle East, joined Stade Rennais in January.
Laporte could follow a similar path and come to France. As per Tavolieri, Olympique de Marseille will look to strengthen their defence this summer and have already made contact with the Spaniard’s entourage regarding a potential move. The centre-back is prioritising a move to a club qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Currently second in Ligue 1, OM have a strong chance of qualifying for the competition.
Marseille are yet to make contact with Al-Nassr, however, that could soon change. Laporte’s contract with the Saudi club expires at the end of next season.
