Barcelona star forced to turn off social media comments amid fan abuse | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has turned off the comments on his personal Instagram account.

This comes amid a heavy backlash for his performance in last night’s Champions League semi-final showdown with Inter Milan.

The player in question? Ronald Araújo.

Defender Araújo, for his part, was introduced off the bench on Tuesday night, as Barcelona were sent packing from Europe at the hands of Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.

The Uruguayan went on to endure something of a disappointing outing from a personal standpoint, playing an unwanted role in both Inter’s injury-time equaliser, and extra-time winner.

As much gave rise to ruthless and at this point inevitable criticism aimed in Araújo’s direction following the full-time whistle.

Such backlash was particularly aggressive on social media, where the defender found himself the target of widespread abuse from the Barcelona faithful.

So much so that, as alluded to above, Araújo found it necessary to temporarily deactivate the comments section on his Instagram account.
