How it all happened when Bayern hosted 1899 Hoffenheim

It would take seven minutes for Bayern to take the lead. After Kompany’s side kept their hosts pinned in their half, a layoff from Thomas Müller was rifled into the bottom corner by Leroy Sane — a superb finish. Shoutout to Dayot Upamecano for superbly winning the ball back to cut off a counter that led to the goal.

After 13 minutes, Die Roten doubled their lead. Twenty-five yards or so out, Raphael Guerreiro fed the ball into Kane, who returned the ball to the Portuguese international who had made a run beyond the defense. Baring down on the goal, he opened his body to curl a finish into the bottom corner.

With 25 minutes or so on the clock, Bayern were awarded a penalty upon review. Harry Kane continued his astonishing record of converting the penalties with an emphatic finish.

Two minutes later, it should have been four. Superb, quick, slick passing from Bayern led to Sane cutting the ball back for Muller, but he placed his effort wide of the post.

Kompany made a change at half-time, bringing Mathys Tel on for Coman. It would not take long for the young Frenchman to make an impact. Three minutes into the second half, a superb inswinging cross from Tel found Sane at the back post, who swept the ball into the bottom corner.

After 52 minutes, Kane had a chance for his second goal of the game, but he was denied by Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim goal.

On the hour mark, the England captain and Upamecano were both given some rest, replaced by Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka, respectively. Shame not to see Kimmich also afforded some rest.

Just like Tel, it did not take long for Gnabry to make an impact. After Sane slipped Alphonso Davies through on goal, the Canadian was slide tackled, but the ball fell to Gnabry who tucked the ball away. Straight after, Michael Olise replaced Sane.

With a little under ten minutes remaining, Jamal Musiala made his return to the pitch, in a like-for-like change with Muller. That would be that, and Bayern picked up another win, with a 5-0 victory over their Hoffenheim counterparts. Two clean sheets in as many games in 2025, and two games with five goals scored in the last five games.

Another dominant display. Hoffenheim had five shots, whilst Bayern had five big chances - Kompany's side had 3.36 xG to their visitor's 0.37. Sheer dominance for 90 minutes. The lead over Leverkusen remains four points at the midway stage of the season. (Stats courtesy: Fotmob)
