Real Madrid won their final match before the October international break as they emerged victorious over the third-placed Villarreal with a 2-0 win.

The Merengues had been under quite some pressure following their draw against Atletico Madrid in La Liga and the midweek defeat to Lille in the UEFA Champions League. But this win relieves them of this pressure to a significant extent.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Jude Bellingham was one of the players who talked to the media after the end of this game. The Englishman expressed his happiness with the result, especially after the difficult last week the team had endured:

“I’m very happy with the team’s reaction and the result after a tough week that hurt us. Villarreal is a great team that moves the ball well. They have players of great quality, but we started better from the beginning, with pressing, in transitions, with two incredible goals… It’s been a good response to this week.”

But despite the happiness over the result, Bellingham was also highly concerned with the injury that Dani Carvajal suffered in this game:

“We have a bad taste in our mouths because of what happened with Dani. We still don’t know what’s wrong; we have to wait for the tests. Hopefully, it’s something minor that will allow him to come back as soon as possible because he’s a key player for us with a huge personality.”

The midfielder went on to share that the team had already prepared for the play that led to Valverde’s goal:

“With Fede Valverde, we practiced this morning. It’s good that he joined in. And for Vinicius’ goal, it was a moment of individual brilliance. It was a magnificent goal.”

Lastly, the English star also shared his feelings about his role in the team this season:

“I feel good; I’m not scoring goals, but I’m enjoying myself more, touching the ball more, and defending too… Obviously, I want to score again, but the important thing is that I can contribute with my play, and I feel like I’m doing well.”

After his incredible last season, it is easy to feel like Bellingham is not playing at his best because of his lower goal involvements. But as he himself clarified, his role in the team has changed, but he still remains a pivotal player for Carlo Ancelotti.
