Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has issued his own thoughts and feelings on the brand new, revamped version of the FIFA Club World Cup which will launch this summer.
The four-in-a-row Premier League champions will head Stateside following the conclusion of the European season as they look to defend their FIFA Club World Cup crown claimed in 2023 over in Saudi Arabia.
Success in the global competition followed two further triumphs on the European season after Manchester City won their first ever UEFA Champions League title before claiming the UEFA Super Cup in Athens, Greece.
Victories over Urawa Reds and Fluminense in Saudi Arabia then saw City claim the title of ‘world champions’, before retaining their honour through until 2025 with FIFA postponing subsequent editions of the competition as they worked to revamp and expand its format.
Speaking during a new interview with ITV Sport, Bernardo Silva exclaimed that he is ‘for’ the competition relaunching in its brand new format, with Manchester City set to ‘give their all’ to claim their title back after their 2023 success.
“Well, I’m for it, because if you look at the competition, it’s a beautiful competition. If you look at the teams that are going to be there, the format, it’s nice, I like that,” Bernardo Silva admitted.
The Portugal international continued, “So I would say that we’re very much looking forward to that specific competition, it’s going to be a beautiful one with teams all around the world and it’s a nice cup that we have an opportunity to win.
“I think it’s going to be played every four years, so you don’t have the chance like the Premier League or Champions League to win it every season, so we’re going to give our all to win it.”
Manchester City will still be hoping to claim silverware between now and the start of the FIFA Club World Cup as they have successfully reached a third consecutive FA Cup final, with Crystal Palace awaiting at Wembley Stadium in mid-May.
Pep Guardiola and his players have already found out their opponents too for when they make the trip across the Atlantic, with three group stage matches on the agenda against Juventus, Al-Ahly, and Wydad AC.
