Lumsden is currently the Women's Championship's joint-third top scorer with three strikes, including a brace in this month's Tyne-Wear derby win at Sunderland.

But the Borehamwood-born winger acknowledged that there's more than just what people see for 90 minutes on the pitch.

Having joined from Portsmouth Women in January this year, United's number 26 has become an instant hit on Tyneside, even taking up the label of 'Mackem Slayer' following her derby double.

"Being a forward player I love to score goals," Lumsden said. "But it's not just about that because I look to help the team in any way I can.

"The Sunderland game was brilliant for me and it's been amazing getting tagged in all the memes, and hearing the chants that the fans have come up with has been great.

"I've always kept working hard in training and understand that every match requires different players.

"Everything that Becky (Langley) has said to me from pre-season up until now, I've taken on board, kept working hard and showed her what I can bring to the team, and hopefully I can keep scoring goals."

Newcastle travel to St. Andrews @ Knighthead Park on Sunday to take on Women's Championship table-toppers, Birmingham City Women.

It's the first of back-to-back away games for United, who are currently on a two-match unbeaten run having picked up four points against Sunderland and Charlton Athletic Women respectively.

United's former England youth international is confident of extending that sequence and closing the gap on this weekend's opponents after a solid week on the training pitch.

"It's been a good week for us, we had some time off but also put in a lot of work," she added. "We had some players away on international duty, but the rest of us have been working hard on the training pitch.

"We know that we've got a big week and month ahead. I know we go into the game on Sunday just like any other match because every game is a challenge in this league.

"Every game is an opportunity to pick up three points and I truly believe that. We're all focused on training this week and hoping to put in a good performance for our fans come Sunday."
