Nathan Redmond continues to be tracked by Birmingham City, but they could face competition to sign the Burnley winger this month.
Birmingham City face competition to sign Burnley's Nathan Redmond this month, but remain interested in their former winger.
Redmond began his career as a youngster with Birmingham, his hometown club. He made his first-team debut in the League Cup second-round tie against Rochdale in August 2010, becoming the club's second-youngest player ever at the age of just 16 years and 173 days.
According to Alan Nixon, Redmond could return to Blues this winter. With a recent report last month from The Sun stating that they are interested in striking a loan deal for Redmond during the January transfer window. However, they are not the only club interested in his services, according to Darren Witcoop.
He hasn't played for the Clarets since suffering a long-term injury all the way back in January of last year, although he appeared in three matchday squads at the end of November without getting off the bench.
He departed Birmingham almost 12 years ago now, when he signed for Norwich City in a deal that was reportedly worth up to £3.2 million in the summer of 2013, before later playing for Southampton, Besiktas, and now Burnley.
Redmond simply hasn't been able to make an impact with the Clarets and that will disappoint him, considering he enjoyed a decent time at Besiktas before that. However, he has had a great career to date, with the ex-Southampton attacker making close to 300 appearances in the Premier League, along with earning caps for England.
Blues remain keen and are "known admirers", per Witcoop. He states that the 30-year-old is close to full fitness and remains on the radar of numerous sides.
The club's record-breaking summer transfer window signalled their intentions right from the off, with Chris Davies moulding a side which welcomed 17 fresh faces. Whilst it is yet to really put any opponents to the sword on the scoreboard, they have so often controlled games, especially of late.
Having rebuilt their squad during the summer transfer window, Blues are in a decent position on the pitch to secure promotion back to the Championship. However, there may be room for them to make some further additions to continue increasing their chances of winning automatic promotion, and Redmond could be part of that.
The wide areas have, at times, been a problem position for Davies, despite having the services of Keshi Anderson, Emil Hansson, and Scott Wright to call upon.
However, due to various injury issues for the trio at points of the season, further depth and quality should be looked at, and a homecoming for Redmond would be a welcome addition.
And, the 30-year-old would add much more to the squad than pure sentimentality. After coming through the ranks at his hometown club, Redmond now offers a wealth of experience at levels way above the English third tier, and his directness and pace could be key.
Burnley and Scott Parker have a vast array of wide attacking options at his disposal, and he seemingly doesn't intend on calling upon the one-time England international's services, and that could just open the door for Blues to land him in a deal which would represent yet another statement of intent.
