Manchester United will reportedly opt against renewing the contract of Victor Lindelof, a news that should be positively received at Everton.
The Swede had only made his return from injury recently, only to suffer another setback on Thursday.
Ruben Amorim started the 30-year-old in the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur which ended in a 4-3 victory for the North Londoners.
However, Lindelof wasn’t on the pitch to witness the madness that ensued in the second period, as he was replaced by Johny Evans at half-time.
The former Benfica man has only made four starting appearances this season, all of them coming either in the Europa League or the Carabao Cup.
So according to the Mirror, this latest injury will likely consolidate the management’s stance on the defender’s contract situation.
Lindelof is currently running on an expiring deal, and this will likely be his last contract at Man United, with the management seemingly happy to show him the door at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, this should come as a boost for the player’s several suitors, which include Everton, according to CaughtOffside.
Newcastle United, West Ham United and even Serie A clubs were mentioned as possible destinations for the player. Nevertheless, the Toffees have earmarked the player as a transfer target for quite some time now.
For his part, Gary Neville would be pleased by the outcome, as he had previously made his stance clear about Lindelof’s contract dilemma in the past.
The experienced defender has been plying his trade at Old Trafford since 2017 when he made the switch from Benfica for circa £30 million, but he never truly managed to cement himself as a stalwart with the Premier League giants, which explains why the club continued to splash the cash on defenders, the likes of Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
