Real Madrid have won the race to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen in a £50 million deal.
According to Diario Sport, the 20-year-old has completed the first part of his medical and is set to sign a five-year contract with the Spanish powerhouse.
Huijsen is one of the most sought-after players on the transfer market. His debut season with Bournemouth turned the heads of several European giants.
He was admired by nearly every top team in England, and they all threw their hats in the ring in a fierce duel to secure his services.
Chelsea were the front-runners to snap him up, but Madrid swooped in to agree a deal that would take him back to Spain for the first time since he left Malaga’s youth set-up for Juventus.
Huijsen has been open about his desire to play in Spain, so despite being coveted by half of the Premier League, joining Madrid was a no-brainer for him.
The Netherlands-born Spanish international was given permission by Bournemouth to travel for the first part of his medical.
There’s a second part scheduled for later today, so it’s only a matter of time before the transfer is officially announced by both clubs.
Madrid accelerated their efforts to sign Huijsen this week. His representatives had already flown to Madrid on Thursday to finalise personal terms.
Madrid held talks with Bournemouth to sort out the player’s £50m release clause on Wednesday, which will be paid in three instalments.
As part of the deal, Huijsen’s former clubs Juventus and Malaga will pocket 10% and five percent of the transfer fee, respectively.
Huijsen could already be Madrid’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
After losing their La Liga crown to Barcelona and crashing out of the Champions League in the quarter-final, Madrid are wasting no time shaking things up.
They have already confirmed that they will part ways with Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season, with former midfielder Xabi Alonso set to replace the Italian.
Madrid have also wrapped up a deal for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will join on a free transfer this summer.
