Alessandro Del Piero has officially become a certified UEFA coach, and Fabio Capello tells his former striker to ‘not rush’ and put together a ‘reliable staff.’

Former Juventus and Italy striker Del Piero got his coaching badges in Coverciano earlier this week, and his former coach Capello sent some advice to the 2006 World Cup winner regarding his new career.

Capello started his interview with Gazzetta by saying he expected Del Piero to pursue a similar career.

“Yes, because he’s always been smart. He has personality and speaks excellent English. Also, he’s not impulsive,” said the ex-Juventus and Milan coach via Ilbianconero.com.

“He didn’t jump straight into a new career when he stopped playing. E did commercials and worked as a pundit. Always with class and professionalism. That’s how he is in everything he does.”

The main advice for Del Piero is essential one: “Don’t rush. Don’t skip steps,” said Capello.

“Maybe begin with the youth sector and climb gradually. Take Pirlo. The path planned for him, starting with the Juventus U23 team, was the right one. Suddenly, he found himself thrown into the first team before even getting started. Despite winning two trophies, he was sacked. Coaching is a different job. You need time to learn, mature, and gain experience.”

Pirlo, another 2006 Italy World Cup winner, began his coaching career with the Juventus senior team in 2020, replacing Maurizio Sarri.

Pirlo had initially been appointed for the Bianconeri’s U23 squad, but was quickly promoted following Sarri’s sacking in the summer of 2020.

“A coach is built over time by assembling a reliable and high-level staff,” Capello continued.

“Another advice is ‘don’t surround yourself with ‘yes men’ but valuable and creative collaborators, full of ideas.”

Lastly, Capello revealed he had spoken to Del Piero about his coaching course and the final exam just before it occurred.

“I ran into Alessandro on the train just a couple of days before his exam at Coverciano. We talked about it a bit,” Capello concluded.
