Chelsea and Bayern Munich are reportedly engaged in “ongoing” talks over the possibility of Christopher Nkunku and Mathys Tel swapping clubs in the January transfer window.

The Blues attacker has featured 28 times this season, but has only started three games in the Premier League under Enzo Maresca, something he is said to be unhappy about.

Despite the fact Maresca has stated the club wants the 27-year-old to remain at Stamford Bridge, he has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Manchester United and PSG this month.

Multiple reports now suggest that Nkunku could return to the Bundesliga less than two years after moving to south west London from RB Leipzig for €60 million.

Chelsea and Bayern in talks over Nkunku and Tel transfer

The Athletic initially reported that Chelsea “enquired” about the possibility of signing Mathys Tel, with Bayern “interested” in signing Nkunku in a separate deal.

Sky Sport Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that the German outfit want to sign the French international “immediately” and have already reached a “full verbal agreement” on a long-term contract.

Nkunku is Bayern’s “top transfer target” in January and director of sport Max Eberl wants a permanent deal, not a loan arrangement.

Tel could be in included in the move to make the transfer “easier”, with Plettenberg adding that “negotiations between the clubs are ongoing”.

Who is Chelsea transfer target Mathys Tel?

The 19-year-old forward has scored 16 goals in 81 appearances since joining Bayern from Rennes in a transfer worth €28.5 million, but is yet to get off the mark this season.

Tel started out as a centre-back in his youth career before moving up the pitch once he signed for Rennes. He became Bayern’s younger at 17, taking the record from Jamal Musiala.

The France U21 international was on the shortlist for last year’s Golden Boy Award, which is for the best players under the age of 21 in Europe.

Tel signed a new contract last year, but has struggled for game time, competing against Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman in the front three. He’s only made 12 appearances in all competitions, with just two league starts this season.
