Despite some recent progress, discussions have “once again stalled”, raising fresh doubts over Sane’s long-term future in Bavaria. The 29-year-old’s current contract expires on June 30, leaving Bayern increasingly vulnerable to losing him on a free transfer in 2025.

The idea that Sane “would rather join Chelsea than Tottenham” is music to the ears. There’s always a special kind of satisfaction when players choose the Bridge over N17. It speaks to ambition, to belief in the project – and to London still being blue.

Yes, £244,000 a week is a serious chunk of change. But when you consider the cost of signing a top winger outright – potentially £70m+ – this could be a financially shrewd play. Free transfers aren’t free, but they can be smart.

Sane’s arrival would also add much-needed competition and quality. With Madueke still finding consistency and Mykhailo Mudryk struggling for end product, this is a player who guarantees experience and class.
