Chelsea are set to appoint Willie Isa to a new role at the club after he announced his retirement from rugby league last month.
The Blues are in danger of seeing their season fall apart after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Brighton on Saturday evening.
Enzo Maresca’s men still sit fourth in the league, but their only chance of silverware is now the Conference League.
Many fans were unhappy with Maresca’s comments after the FA Cup exit, and there have been questions about Chelsea’s mentality recently.
There’s no doubt the Blues have got a squad full of talent, but it does lack experience, leadership and a winning culture.
Very few in the squad have tasted success in the game, and it’s clear the club are struggling to create a winning mindset and mentality.

Leadership is also an issue, with Maresca calling out captain Reece James earlier in the season, but according to Mail Sport the Blues are set to make a surprise appointment to try and solve these issues.
The report states Chelsea are set to appoint rugby league star Isa as a player support and development officer, and he will have a range of responsibilities at the club.
Mail Sport add that Isa is known for his leadership skills, and his role will be dedicated mainly to player co-ordination around training and match days, with the Blues looking to grow support for players across all the club’s teams.

Quite what difference this makes remains to be seen, and the last time Chelsea tried something similar was when they hired former New Zealand mental skills coach Gilbert Enoka.
At this point the Blues need all the help they can get in terms of leadership and winning mentality, but fans would argue the club could just sign some players who possess those characteristics.
