Chivas earned three crucial points in their push for the top half of the Liga MX table after a 2-1 victory over 10-man Club Tijuana on Sunday.
Scorers: Pulido 28' Alvarado 30'; Murillo 45+8'. Red: Fernandez 81'
Mexican giants Chivas earned just their second win of the Liga MX campaign after two quick goals and a little luck over the weekend.
After five years away, striker Alan Pulido returned to find the back of the net for the club after peeling off two defenders and rifling home the opener from point-blank range.
Then, in the blink of an eye, goalkeeper José de Jesús Corona picked the ball out of the net a second time when Roberto Alvarado smashed home a perfect curling cross into the box.
Club Tijuana managed to turn things into a one-goal game when José Raúl Zúñiga Murillo headed home the ball from a corner after goalkeeper Raúl Rangel missed his punch.
However the visitors struggled to put a second of any of their 15 efforts in the back of the net despite 68% possession.
A late red card for substitute Joaquín Fernández then ensured all three points remained with the hosts and they sit 10th in the table. Club Tijuana, meanwhile, sit 16th.
