UEFA have confirmed that an all-French team of match officials will oversee proceedings between Manchester City and Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola and his players will be hoping to build upon their strengthened case for silverware via the FA Cup from Saturday afternoon as they came from behind to defeat Leyton Orient 1-2 at Brisbane Road.
Up next is the stern test of Real Madrid in a play-off tie for a place in the last-16, with the familiar rivals on the European scene set to clash twice in the next two weeks, with the second of those meetings coming in the Spanish capital.
First up for the reigning Premier League champions and La Liga giants is a clash at the Etihad Stadium as both sides look to secure themselves a much-needed advantage heading into the second portion of 90 minutes next week.
Manchester City have faced a multitude of injury and fitness problems throughout the course of the campaign but find themselves with just two sidelined names for this week’s meeting in Oscar Bobb and Rodri, while there are lingering doubts over Nico Gonzalez’s fitness.
Ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Real Madrid, UEFA bosses have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
UEFA have confirmed that the highly-rated and experienced French referee Clément Turpin will take charge of proceedings between Manchester City and Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
This will be the fifth meeting between Turpin and the Etihad club with the 42-year-old having overseen 1-2 and 7-0 wins for Manchester City over Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke respectively in 2015 and 2019.
The Frenchman was also positioned in the middle for the Champions League quarter-final second-leg between Bayern Munich and City at the Allianz Arena in 2023 en route to a historic Istanbul final for Pep Guardiola and his players.
The most recent meeting involving Turpin and the reigning Premier League champions came in December of this season as Manchester City collapsed to a 2-0 defeat in Turin against Juventus during the league phase of the competition.
Across all competitions so far this campaign, Turpin has taken charge of 25 matches and issued 76 yellow cards, one second yellow card dismissal, one straight red card, and having awarded 12 penalties.
Accompanying Clement Turpin at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night on the field of play will be fellow French match officials Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pages in the role of assistant referees.
Overseeing the heavyweight UEFA Champions League contest from the VAR position this week will be Jérôme Brisard as Video Assistant Referee and Willy Delajod as the contest’s Assistant Video Assistant Referee.
Standing between Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti will be French official Mathieu Vernice, who has been appointed into the role of the match’s fourth official.
