Club director accuses Chelsea of having no plan for “difference maker” likened to a Ferrari | OneFootball

Shakhtar Donetsk general director Sergiy Palkin has claimed Chelsea don’t know how to use Mykhailo Mudryk and compared the winger to a Ferrari.

Chelsea signed Mudryk from the Ukrainian side in January 2023 for an initial £62.5m and he was one of several big money signings to arrive in that window.

It’s fair to say Mudryk’s time at Chelsea hasn’t gone to plan so far and he’s struggled to hold down a regular place in the team.

Palkin accuses Chelsea of not knowing how to use Mudryk

Having failed to register a goal contribution in his first six months at the club there were signs of improvement last season and Mudryk scored seven goals and provided two assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

However, the 23-year-old has started just one Premier League game this season, in which he was substituted at half time and didn’t even make the squad for last weekend’s defeat to Liverpool.

The winger has recently been linked with a move to Marseille, who are managed by his former boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The arrival of Jadon Sancho, who Maresca described as a special player and Pedro Neto has increased the competition in the wide areas and Mudryk has had to make do with getting the majority of his minutes in the Conference League and Carabao Cup.

Shakhtar director Palkin has accused Chelsea of not having a plan for the Ukraine international and likened him to a Ferrari.

“You don’t need a Ferrari if you don’t know how to drive it,” he told Goal.

“A normal car will do. If you buy a Ferrari, you should think about how to handle it. That’s my opinion on Mudryk at Chelsea.”

Chelsea fans are yet to see the best of Mudryk although he has shown signs of improvement in his recent performances and is likely to get another chance to impress in Thursday’s Conference League game against Panathinaikos.
