AC Milan failed to clinch what would have been a very important win in the Champions League race last night, losing 2-1 to Torino. As highlighted by a report, they were let down by their stars ahead of the six-point week.
As stated by today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Milan wanted to raise the level after the Champions League exit but instead, they managed to sink even further. They were let down by the stars as Mike Maignan committed another howler while Christian Pulisic missed a penalty.
The defeat is heavy for morale and the standings, because now fourth place is increasingly distance. Furthermore, should Juventus win against Cagliari tonight, then the distance would be eight points. This would be incredibly difficult for Sergio Conceicao and his men to recoup, even if they have no choice but to give it a go.
In the last five seasons, Milan have never collected so few points in the league (41 currently) and that says a lot about the situation. Next week will be a six-pointer for the Rossoneri with Bologna on Thursday, the rescheduled game, and then Lazio at San Siro on Sunday.
Without two wins, they can more or less wave goodbye to the Champions League. Conceicao will now have Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to work on the tactics, so he needs to show what he’s capable of as well.
