Liverpool take another big step towards the Premier League title after beating Newcastle United 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

With only ten games left to play in the Premier League, we are approaching the business end of the season. Liverpool have six games at home, and with the sizeable lead they have got, they should be able to see off the challenges from their nearest rivals.

At this point last season, Liverpool were leading the table, but Manchester City were only two points behind. In the end, Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out of steam, while City edged Arsenal to the title.

Arne Slot will be aware of what happened last season, and he will not let his team constantly think about the title, especially when they can still win the Carabao Cup and the Champions League.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister sealed the tie in Liverpool’s favour.

Szoboszlai has been in great form at the moment, and Slot praised him heavily after the game. The midfielder shared with BBC Match of the Day that the Reds boss has told them not to get carried away, as they have a huge Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain coming up next week.

“We just had a meeting with the gaffer and he said ‘well done guys but on to the next one’. It is ten more games in the Premier League but before that we have a Champions League game in Paris so we have to be ready,” said Szoboszlai.

Slot said after the game that his team is not thinking about the long term. Liverpool play one Premier League game in March and then they have the Carabao Cup final, along with the important Champions League game.

The players will get a good rest ahead of their Champions League clash, as Liverpool have no games to play this weekend after they crashed out of the FA Cup.
