Defeat this weekend could see the Eagles drop out of the top four, pending results elsewhere.

The hosts lost 4-1 against champions Bayer Leverkusen last time out, leaving them two points ahead of Freiburg, and now a place behind neighbours Mainz after their comfortable win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday evening.

Dino Toppmöller's side did secure victory in Europe this week however, beating Ajax 2-1 in their Europa League Round of 16 first leg.

However, after Champions League football has looked a certainty for large parts of the campaign, Frankfurt's iron grip on the top four has loosened, with the gap to Borussia Dortmund in 10th now being just seven points.

However, the home defeat against Leverkusen was the first home soil loss in six outings.

Team News

Toppmöller has numerous injury concerns to contend with, as he will be without centre-backs Aurele Amenda and Robin Koch. Ansgar Knauff and Junior Dina Ebimbe are also absent.

Ellyes Skhiri is suspended, while striker Igor Matanovic is still on the sidelines.

Union Berlin

Union suffered a damaging defeat against Bundesliga debutants Holstein Kiel on Sunday afternoon, with die Eisernen failing to create a single big chance.

Steffen Baumgart's side does boast a six-point advantage over 16th-placed Bochum, who currently sit in the relegation playoff position. However, Union's upcoming five fixtures are all against the league's top five, which will be crucial for the visitors to ensure that they don't slip into a potential relegation battle.

Union's form on their travels is also concerning, with the club recording eight defeats in their last nine away matches, conceding 24 goals during this period.

Team News

Centre-back Oluwaseun Ogbemudia is ruled out due to a foot injury until the end of the month, while midfielder Aljoscha Kemlein is sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
