Pep Guardiola says he is hopeful but still unsure whether Erling Haaland will be involved against Tottenham on Wednesday.

The striker was absent for Man City in the defeat to Liverpool and the Champions League loss against Real Madrid having sustained a knee injury against Newcastle earlier this month.

Guardiola had previously said the injury was not expected to keep him out for long but that he was experiencing discomfort.

The forward has scored 27 goals in 35 games in all competitions for City this season.

And asked whether the 24-year-old will play against Spurs, Guardiola said: “Tonight we will know after training.

“I hope so, but we don’t know yet. He feels better but we will see tomorrow.”

City will certainly remain without John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Oscar Bobb and Rodri, however, who are all out long term.

Guardiola’s side sit fourth in the league going into the game against 12th placed Spurs.

Tottenham have endured a difficult season but have picked up lately, winning their last three games in the league, most recently a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town.

They have also welcomed players back from injury and despite their poor season, the City boss had high praise for his opposite number Ange Postecoglou ahead of the clash.

“I have a high opinion about him,” he said. “I try to not judge results, you have to see the ideas; sometimes it’s going well, sometimes not much but I have a high, high opinion.

“(They are) a fantastic team, individual quality that they’ve always had, the rhythm they play with, the intensity, incredible runners in transition.

“But I’ve seen lately they are a little bit more pause in the final third, more extra passes, maybe before they finished actions so quickly. They can do it of course especially when Maddison plays.

“Results dictate one thing, but my opinion of the team is completely the opposite.

“We need to do many good things.”
