Talal Al Hammad is keen on a potential takeover of the Owls, with many fans hoping for a change of ownership.
Former Wigan Athletic chairman Talal Al Hammad is interested in returning to English football with Sheffield Wednesday.
This is according to The Sun, who believes the ex-Latic is keen to make a second attempt to get himself back into the EFL.
He was previously thought to be part of a bid to purchase League One side Reading, as part of the Genevra Associates group.
This group were even believed to be on the brink of signing exclusivity with the Royals in November 2023, but that failed to materialise in the end.
It's believed they reignited their interest back in March, but Chiron Sports Group ended up gaining exclusivity in the end, before former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig attempted to get an agreement over the line.
The Berkshire side remain unsold at this stage, and Genevra Associates may still have the opportunity to secure a takeover, with the Royals not in a period of exclusivity at this stage and in potential danger of going out of business later this year if a sale isn't completed.
But it looks as though Bahraini Al Hammad has his sights set on another English club, who are currently competing in the Championship.
According to The Sun, Al Hammad is keen to cooperate with some of the Owls' supporter groups to try and get a deal over the line for the second-tier club.
He is keen to get himself back into English football, despite seeing his time at the DW Stadium end in tears.
If he came in, his group would replace Dejphon Chansiri, who has become a very unpopular figure at Hillsborough.
There was discontent in South Yorkshire some time ago, but a couple of late HMRC payments and a disastrous forum last month has turned many Wednesday fans against Chansiri.
Protests have taken place against the Thai businessman, but it remains to be seen whether that will push him into a sale.
This is a very interesting story - because many Wigan fans will warn Wednesday fans after Al Hammad's time at the DW Stadium.
The end of his reign was a disaster and that can't be disputed.
However, it could also be argued that he wasn't the "money man" at Wigan, and that's why you have to feel for him a bit.
If he is to become a key figure at Hillsborough, he may need to undergo an OaDT (Owners and Directors Test), and it will be interesting to see whether he passes that.
