Bolton are set to complete the signing of Peterborough's Joel Randall, sources have exclusively informed Football League World
Bolton Wanderers are expected to complete the signing of Joel Randall from League One rivals Peterborough United today, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
The Trotters are poised to complete a mid-season raid of the Weston Homes Stadium, with manager Ian Evatt intent on bolstering his squad and firing Bolton towards play-off contention.
Bolton are currently 10th in the League One standings and remain four points away from sixth-placed Reading, though three teams stand ahead in their way as the race for the top-six looks set to intensify. They could, however, be handed a boost from the signing of Randall, which is expected to go through imminently.
Sources have exclusively informed Football League World that Bolton are finally set to seal the signing, having been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old. It's expected to be completed today following significant speculation.
The Trotters were heavily linked to Randall back in the summer and reportedly saw a £1.5 million bid rejected by Posh before the start of the season. But just last week, Football League World broke the news that Bolton had reignited their interest in Randall, who was revealed to be unhappy at Peterborough by boss Darren Ferguson back in September.
A potential exit appeared on the cards for some time, despite Randall agreeing a new three-year deal in the summer which saw him become his side's top earner.
More recently, it was revealed by Peterborough Today that Posh had accepted a bid from Bolton for the midfielder. FLW can now confirm the deal is set to go through today, with personal discussions clearly not any sort of issue between the relevant parties.
It's been a mixed season for Randall, who has been part of a side which has failed to live up to expectations while perhaps not yet hitting his own levels from the previous campaign either.
The former Exeter City star enjoyed the best season of his career last time out by returning 12 goals and 12 assists apiece across all competitions as Posh made it to the play-off semi-finals, but they're now competing at the wrong-end of the table and Randall has found it tough going at times.
The playmaker has scored five goals along with grabbing two assists from eighteen League One games this season.
Typically a regular starter, he was dropped to the bench for Posh's 2-2 draw at Burton Albion on New Year's Day before missing out on the matchday squad entirely in their 1-0 defeat to Wrexham last weekend, fueling added uncertainty about his immediate future with the club.
