Manchester United Under-18s defeated Arsenal Under-18s at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals on Friday.
Adam Lawrence’s side defeated Coventry City, Preston North End and Chelsea in the previous rounds but faced a tough test against Arsenal.
Their talisman Chido Obi netted seven goals in the previous three FA Youth Cup games but was not involved in the quarter-finals as he is expected to play a part for the senior team on Sunday.
The visitors dominated possession with Jack Fletcher breaking a deadlock with a stunning strike.
He carved out space to cut inside and found the top right corner with great precision.
Arsenal’s Louis Copley brought the scores to parity after just five minutes with a sublime dink over United goalkeeper Will Murdock.
Max Dowman showed why he is considered one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the circuit.
He picked up the ball in Arsenal’s half and went on a brilliant run, eventually winning a penalty.
He stepped up and confidently converted from the spot.
Just when the Red Devils were on brink of elimination, right-back Jaydan Kamason unleashed a powerful shot to beat the shot-stopper from a tough angle.
Substitute Bendito Mantato proved to be the match-winner in extra time after magnificent work from Samuel Lusale on the left flank.
Lusale displayed quick feet to dribble his way into the box before squaring it up for Mantato.
Jim Thwaites also deserved some praise for finding Lusale with an incredible pass.
Will Sweet picked up a straight red card late in extra time for a horrific challenge on Kamason.
The Red Devils may deem themselves lucky for the referee not sending Jacob Devaney off earlier in the game.
The officials should have shown him a second yellow card for a foul on Dowman early in the second half.
Godwill Kukonki escaped giving a penalty when he tripped O’Neill inside the box in extra time.
United will play either against Aston Villa or Plymouth in the semi-finals of the competition.
