Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on suggestions that Paris Saint-Germain supremo Luis Campos is in talks over a role at Manchester United.
On Sunday, a report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that United were in advanced talks with Campos regarding the vacant sporting director position.
United have been without a sporting director since December last year, when Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS dismissed Dan Ashworth after just five months.
Rumours of Campos potentially joining the Red Devils naturally sparked excitement among parts of the fanbase, thanks to his outstanding track record in recruitment and talent identification. In recent years, Campos has played a pivotal role in PSG’s transition from pursuing marquee signings to focusing on emerging talents such as Bradley Barcola, João Neves, Vitinha, and Desire Doue.
Campos’s success isn’t limited to his time at PSG. He also enjoyed remarkable spells at AS Monaco and LOSC Lille, where he was instrumental in developing stars like Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen, and Rafael Leao, among others.
His three-year deal with PSG is set to expire at the end of the season and there is uncertainty over his future. However, according to Romano, Campos will not be joining United.
Romano said on his YouTube channel, “We had links with Manchester United. But, I’m told, in this moment, Luis Campos is not negotiating with Manchester United.”
“That’s my information.”
“In terms of links, I’m receiving many of your messages, guys, I understand the excitement because when there is a link with a director like Luis Campos, it’s normal for fans to be excited.”
“We had some links to Chelsea, but Chelsea are very happy with their structure. We had links with Manchester United, but I am not aware of anything on this.”
This was also pointed out by journalist Ben Jacobs who wrote on X, “Luis Campos is still in talks over a new PSG contract. He is not an option for Manchester United or Chelsea, despite links.”
It remains whether United will appoint a new sporting director, but they are forging ahead with their transfer plans. Technical director Jason Wilcox and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell are believed to be in control of the club’s transfer business.
