Today is game day as we head to Fir Park to take on Motherwell in a 3pm kick off. It’s our first domestic game in a fortnight and our first in the Scottish Premiership in nearly three weeks due to the postponement of the home fixture against Dundee last Saturday.

Valiant efforts at Villa Park

Despite Wednesday’s valiant efforts at Villa Park we should still be relatively fresh having only played three fixtures in the past three weeks, and fielding our strongest side is a must. The extra day’s break is also crucial and much better than having a Saturday match after the rigours of the Champions League.

It’s a vital game today, but also a perfect distraction from our woes in the current transfer window. We may have signed Jota which is a big boost, but having lost Kyogo, and failure to snap up Kieran Tierney in this window although he has signed a pre-contract is a bit of a blow.

Transfer window woes

The uncertainty of bringing in other targets is also playing on the minds of the supporters, so to focus on the players who are actually here and give them their full backing today will be a welcome distraction for us all. We’ll be able to judge things better at 11pm on Monday night so for now it’s all about today and collecting the three points at Fir Park, which as usual will be far from easy.

Motherwell a tough nut to crack

Motherwell who currently occupy sixth place will as always be a difficult opponent especially on their own ground, and despite recently parting with their manager, will prove a tough nut to crack.

We want to maintain our healthy lead at the top, and will need a top performance to achieve that. I’m confident we will do just that, and put our transfer woes firmly to the back of our minds, until after the match at least.
