That is according to journalist Jorge Nicola, who has claimed on his YouTube channel that Roberto Firmino could end up at Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Nicola has said that Brazilian giants Flamengo have no intention of signing Firmino, who left Liverpool in the summer of 2023 when his contract with the Premier League club ran out and joined Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
The 33-year-old, who won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and the UEFA Champions League under Klopp at Liverpool, has now been removed from the Al-Ahli squad until the end of the season.
Nicola said on his YouTube channel: “Halfway through the year, Firmino’s wife had already declared her intention to return to England and one of the alternatives would be Arsenal.
“Well, I spoke to José Boto, FLA’s executive director of football, before recording this video and asked if there was any chance of negotiation between Flamengo and Firmino and the answer was…zero chance.”
Firmino is 33 now and is past his prime, and Arsenal, who have been linked with Viktor Gyokeres, should not even think of bringing the former Liverpool star back to the Premier League.
The Brazilian was a brilliant player during his time at Liverpool. Firmino scored 111 goals and gave 75 assists in 362 appearances for the Reds.
While Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane often took the plaudits and scored goals galore, Firmino was the glue that held the famous Liverpool front-three together.
However, the Brazilian is in his mid-30s now, and after playing in the Saudi Pro League since 2023, it is hard to see him have the same physical stamina to succeed again in the Premier League.
Moreover, Firmino has never been a great goalscorer.
With Kai Havertz not a natural number nine and Gabriel Jesus not prolific, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to sign a proper goalscoring centre-forward who will find the back of the net 20 times a season in the Premier League.
Firmino is not that player.
