Sneijder’s statement on Busquets

“Busquets was an extremely annoying player, always giving it to others but never able to receive it. As soon as he received one hit he would start crying. An absolute crybaby,” Sneijder told Ziggo Sport.

Regarded as one of the Netherlands’ most gifted midfielders during his time, Sneijder played against Busquets numerous times during his time at Real Madrid and Inter.

“I literally had fights with him every single game. At one point I told him: ‘I will see you in Ibiza in the summer, then you and I will talk again,” he said.

Continuing his rant, Sneijder revealed an incident where Busquets rolled onto the ground after a tackle from Thiago Motta, thereby questioning his mentality.

“In 2010 we beat Barcelona 3-1 at home, then we had to go to Camp Nou and after 8 minutes Motta hit him,” he started.

Sneijder was referring to the 2009/10 Champions League semifinal between Barça and Inter Milan, where the Italians secured a comfortable 3-1 victory in the first leg.

Recalling the second leg at Camp Nou, Sneijder added, “Busquets started rolling on the ground while looking through his hands to see if Motta got a red card, and then he got up again and he was fine, the crybaby. A nasty guy to play against.”

Barcelona ended up winning that game 1-0, but the score was not enough to turn the tide in their favour, as the Catalans ultimately lost 3-2 on aggregate.

Nevertheless, Sneijder’s strong statement on Busquets may surprise many, especially Barcelona fans who have a different idea of the veteran midfielder.

Indeed, Busquets is regarded as an icon at Barcelona, though his much like Andres Iniesta, his footballing career may soon come to an end.
