Yesterday, FC Barcelona met one of their main sporting objectives as the defender Ronald Araújo signed his new contract with the Catalan club after negotiations that had been going on for quite long and which had not really been without complications.
In addition to Araújo, another defender, Gerard Martín, also signed his new contract. With these developments, the Uruguayan is now committed to the Blaugrana club till 2031 while the Spaniard’s new contract goes till 2028.
Following these two renewals, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have now four other players who are key parts of this team and whose contracts they want to renew with the highest priority.
One of these players is Pedri, who, after several years playing at the highest level, is now an integral part of Hansi Flick’s midfield. Keeping his importance and improvement in mind, the Catalans are looking to extend his contract, which currently goes till 2026, till 2030. Only a few details are left to be ironed out before the two parties reach a final agreement.
Another such player is Pedri’s colleague in the midfield, Gavi. Although only 20 years of age, the La Masia graduate is another key part of the Blaugrana team’s midfield. After his initial arrival on the scene, Barcelona’s trust in the player did not dwindle even during the time he was injured, as work on his renewal was already being done even when he was recovering from his ACL injury.
As things stand, both parties want to continue working together, and thus there are no problems expected in this operation.
Another player who is already one of the most popular and important players in the squad and whose contract Barcelona are looking to renew is the winger Lamine Yamal. The La Masia graduate renewed his last contract till 2026, as his age allowed only a contract for a maximum of three years.
But at that time, there was already an agreement with him to extend his contract until 2030 when he reached the age of maturity. Thus, most of the work in this operation is already done, but one aspect that the two parties will have to address in the coming months will be to adjust his salary to his new status in the team and football at large.
Lastly, another player whom the Catalans want to retain in their team going forward is the winger Raphinha, who is having an incredible season. However, his future at the club was not entirely certain at the start of the season, when the Blaugranes wanted to test whether he should be renewed or sold at the end of this season with his contract going till 2027.
Now, any doubts in the Barcelona Sporting Department have been eliminated, and Barcelona will be looking to extend the Brazilian’s contract, especially as Raphinha also wants to stay.
