Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Gent are closing in on a deal to sign Cameroonian defender Samuel Kotto from Swedish side Malmö. The 21-year-old central defender is set to cost the side around €800k, with an extra €500k in bonuses. Gent have also already agreed personal terms with the defender and he is set to join imminently.

The 21-year-old Kotto joined Malmö back in 2022 and was immediately loaned out to BK Olympic. He spent a season with the club before returning to his parent club. Kotto has only made one appearance for Malmö since joining. He has had two other loan spells, one with Landskrona BoIS and the other last season with IFK Varnamo. He impressed during his time with the latter, scoring once in 23 appearances across both the Swedish cup and the Allsvenskan. The side finished in 14th and had to fight for survival in the relegation play-off. They survived with a 3-2 aggregate win over Kotto’s former side Landskrona.
