The mood at Carrington is reportedly positive on Tuesday morning as Alejandro Garnacho ended up staying at Manchester United.

The Argentine is a youth product of the club who rose to stardom under Erik ten Hag’s watch in the previous two campaigns. But after a slow and thorny start under Ruben Amorim, the 20-year-old was identified as a potential sacrificial lamb on the market.

Therefore, the winger was heavily linked with a transfer to Napoli who were keen to sign the youngster as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskehlia and held talks with the United directors in recent weeks, while Chelsea also threatened to launch a late onslaught.

Nevertheless, Garnacho ended up staying at the club, much to the delight of Amorim who is has been fielding the player in his starting lineup as of late after noticing significant improvement.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Man Utd staff were equally thrilled by the outcome, feeling great relief after avoiding an uproar amongst the club’s supporters.

As the source explains, the Premier League giants weren’t forced to sell Garnacho from a financial perspective, but INEOS would have considered a transfer, enticed by the prospect of registering major capital gains by offloading an academy product.

Nevertheless, that decision wouldn’t have sat well with the Red Army, especially with the Argentina international being a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

So deliberately or not, the hierarchy averted a messy situation. However, they still have to tie down the player with a long-term contract that includes improved terms, as Garnacho remains one of the club’s lowest earners with a weekly salary of £50,000. His current deal runs until June 2028.
