MIAMI – The 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continued on Friday with four matches in League B as Groups B and C were on display.
Haiti remained undefeated and clinched first place in Group C, earning promotion to League A and booking its participation in the 2025 Gold Cup.
The race in Group B took a twist as Grenada defeated leaders Saint Lucia while Curaçao earned a victory to jump into the number one spot.
Saint Lucia vs. Grenada
Grenada knocked Saint Lucia out of the top spot in Group B of League B with a 4-nil victory at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao.
After a scoreless first half, Grenada got rolling with a Jermaine Francis header in the 50’. Regan Charles-Cook doubled the lead six minutes later with a strong shot from inside the box.
Trevon Williams added a third goal in the 74’. Myles Hippolyte struck a blazing left-footed shot from the edge of the box in the 86’ to extend Grenada’s lead by four.
With the victory, Grenada improved to seven points and assured itself at least a third-place finish to avoid relegation. Saint Lucia dropped to second place but is one point removed from the top spot with nine units.
Sint Maarten vs. Haiti
Haiti earned an 8-nil win over Sint Maarten at Estadio Centroamericano de Mayagüez in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
Les Grenadiers added to their high-scoring campaign with a Frantzdy Pierrot hat trick and a Duckens Nazon brace.
Attys Christopher opened the scoring in the 2’ to capitalize off a corner kick.
Pierrot struck his first two in the 14’ and 25’, with Markhus Lacroix striking in between in the 19’.
The onslaught continued in the second half as they tallied three more goals in rapid fashion. Nazon struck in the 49' and 58' while Pierrot completed his hat trick in the 52’.
Mondy Prunier added to his account in the 67’ on a celebratory night for the Group C winners.
Haiti, which has now scored 26 goals in five matches, will play Puerto Rico on Monday to finish its League B campaign.
The defeat relegates Sint Maarten to the following edition. The nation will seek to finish its season with a victory on Monday against Aruba.
Saint Martin vs. Curaçao
Curaçao solidified its spot atop Group B with a 5-nil rout of Saint Martin at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao.
Jearl Margaritha stole the show by scoring four goals, two in each half, in commanding fashion.
His first came in the 24’ as he used good footwork to lose defenders and blast the opener. Ten minutes later, he pulled off an excellent backheel flick to add his second.
In the 54’ he sprinted into the box and ripped a loose ball for his hat trick.
Juninho Bacuna scored a penalty kick in the 78’ after Belony Dumas was sent off for receiving his second yellow card.
Margaritha finished off his outstanding performance with a goal in the 80’.
The victory and earlier result placed Curaçao in first place with a 1-point lead over Saint Lucia. The two nations will face off in a winner-takes-all on Monday.
Puerto Rico vs. Aruba
Puerto Rico won 5-1 against Aruba at Estadio Centroamericano de Mayagüez in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
It was a special encounter as it marked the 400th match in Nations League history.
Ricardo Rivera got things going with a nice header for the opening goal in the 8’. Javier Jimenez equalized for Aruba in the 22’ as he cleaned up a scramble in the box.
Noeh Hernandez found the back of the net just a minute later to put Puerto Rico back in the lead.
Puerto Rico scored three more goals in the second half, starting with a Darren Rios header in the 55’. Jaden Servania got on the scoresheet in the 62’ to further the advantage.
Alec Díaz delivered a stunning free kick from distance in 81’ to close out the victory.
Puerto Rico is in second place in Group C with nine points as it remains in the hunt for a Gold Cup preliminary spot as one of the best runners-up. The hosts will play group winners Haiti in the final match.
The defeat seals relegation for Aruba, who will take on third place Sint Maarten on Monday.
