Manchester United youngster Harry Amass described the feeling of making his senior debut for the club as an “incredible experience.”
Amass became United’s 253rd Academy graduate when he was brought on as a substitute in the 69th minute of Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City. He replaced Alejandro Garnaho on what was his 18th birthday.
He joined the club from Watford’s youth system in June 2023 and has primarily featured for the Under-18s since.
The left-back played in all three games of United’s pre-season tour in the United States and was expected to feature prominently under now-sacked manager Erik ten Hag.
However, Ten Hag never really gave him a chance apart from selecting him in a few matchday squads.
After the final whistle against Leicester, Amorim praised Amass, insisting that he and his Academy teammates must be aware of how lucky they are to play for United.
Amass spoke to MUTV [via Manchester Evening News] and reacted to making his first professional appearance.
“It is an incredible experience. I am just proud at the moment and I think my family, everyone watching at home, will be proud of me.”
“I am just grateful for the opportunity and hopefully there is many more to come.”
Amass revealed that the more experienced members of the squad have helped him a lot.
“You learn a lot from that. They have been so many experiences and every single one of them has got a different journey.”
“You can take so much from each player. I am close with a few of them and a few of them do look after me. It is a great group of people and I am just grateful.”
He continued, “I think it is an unreal experience. I have learnt a lot with this lot. I think I have improved. They are on me all the time in the right way and they are just improving my game.”
“I am spending every day around them and learning a lot, so I just appreciate everyone.”
United are back in action on April 1 when they go away to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.
